ALP’s international trade team advises businesses, governments, institutions and civil society organisations on the requirements and enforcement of international trade regulations affecting clients’ operations across the continent. Our team is located in Lagos, Kampala, Nairobi, Dar-es-Salaam and Juba.

We also advise on investigative, preventive and remedial measures to help clients keep in compliance and successfully resolve breaches or disputes if they occur.

  • Providing trade negotiation support through analysis and briefs

  • Undertaking detailed economic and political impact assessments of negotiating proposals

  • Supporting the drafting and presentation of sound political, economic and legal arguments and counter proposals

  • Developing and implementing comprehensive engagement strategies aimed at key decision makers

  • Undertaking private sector and civil society engagement and consultation

  • Producing guidance and training for trade negotiators

  • Conducting private sector and civil society stakeholder engagement on development of new regulations

PRIVATE SECTOR

  • Representing clients in all aspects of international business transactions, including drafting and negotiating of trade agreements.

  • Addressing export and import control restrictions.

  • Litigating trade remedies cases

  • Trade due diligence advice to assist corporate clients in M&A transactions

  • Undertaking market research and analysis and market entry strategies for private sector

  • Conducting risk assessments, compliance reviews, and internal investigations

CIVIL SOCIETY

  • Producing guidance and training on various aspects of trade policy and trade agreements 

  • Engaging with stakeholders such as women’s business and trade entities, SMEs and youth 

  • Providing research services on all aspects of trade policy
